Two Monkeys are better than One!

Maya has a new friend!
A couple of weeks ago, CERCOPAN received a young orphaned baby putty female. Luckily, this new baby appears to be around the same age as Maya, therefore it was our great fortune to be able to place the two young monkeys together. Not only does this interaction serve as true companionship, but it also helps each orphan learn more appropriately about monkey behaviour and start the process of weaning them from human attention. Maya and our new infant were instantly friends and have been inseparable since their introduction. The newest orphan is still quite scared and seems somewhat traumatized by her ordeal. I am impressed to see how Maya has taken the lead in helping to get this young putty adjusted to her new situation and often Maya is seen carrying the new orphan around on her back. This is quite a sight considering the newest orphan and Maya are practically the same size!
Hoping to go out to a “big monkey” enclosure soon, Maya and the newest orphan are healthy and behaving normally. Glad to finally have someone her own size to wrestle with, Maya and friend spend all day either playing, eating, or sleeping curled next to each other. Because of CERCOPAN, these two special infants not only have a new lease on life, but they also have each other!
